A COUNCIL committee has fixed a date to vote on the revised planning application for a controversial storage and distribution centre for online giant Amazon.

The development control committee of the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (BDBC) is set to reconsider the full planning application for the Oakdown Farm warehouse on Wednesday, October 27.

The council had announced last month that the application will go back to the development control committee after the applicant, Newlands Developments, submitted a revised planning application for the warehouse on the A30 near junction 7 of the M3.

As previously reported, BDBC revoked the planning consent for the project five months after planning permission was initially granted.

This came after the Dummer Parish Council wrote to the borough council challenging the legality of the decision to grant permission taken by the committee in April.

As there was an inconsistency in the report concerning the visibility of the building from Dummer, which was not corrected during public speaking, the borough council decided to take the opportunity to return the planning application to development control committee.

Since then, the applicant, Newlands Developments, has submitted some revised plans and other documents for the planning application to update on proposed changes since the application was first submitted.

The revisions to the proposed development relate primarily to changes in the landscaping levels on the site and a minor change to the proposed internal site highway layout. Consultation on these amendments to the planning application runs until Tuesday, September 28.

The borough council’s head of planning, sustainability and infrastructure Ruth Ormella said: “The planning application will be reported to committee in the normal way.

“Consultation is currently running on amendments to the application made by the applicant and the comments received on this will be reported to the committee, alongside any other updates to the assessment of the application, the feedback from all relevant specialist bodies, comments made originally and any further ones received.

“A report assessing the planning matters and policies will be published in advance of the committee, with an officer recommendation for the councillors to consider.”
