Two lanes on M3 near Basingstoke have been blocked after a tow truck pulling a car and a transit flatbed lorry caught fire between Junction 5 and 6.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary told the Gazette: “We were called at 10.17am to the M3, near junction 5, following reports of a vehicle on fire on the hard shoulder of the northbound carriageway.

“Two lanes have been closed while the incident is dealt with.

“No injuries have been reported to us and we remain at the scene.”

There is approximately 30 minutes delay on the road, according to the live traffic update of Hampshire County Council.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service told the Gazette that personnel from Basingstoke and Tadley are the scene.

"Firefighters from Basingstoke and Tadley are currently on scene of a fire involving a tow truck on the M3 north between junctions six and five. Crews were called at 10:15 and the incident is ongoing."
