YOUNG people who are looking for a new job will be able to get a helping hand from experts during a special jobs fair on Thursday.

The fair has been organised in partnership with Job Centre Plus and RCS services, to showcase a range of opportunities that are available with local employers.

The opportunities include those from Kickstart and apprenticeship schemes, and will take place at Basingstoke Discovery Centre between 1pm and 5pm,
Hannah Golding, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s cabinet member for economic development said that she hopes the job fair will help those who have struggled during the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has been hard for us all, with many of our resident’s facing unemployment worries and redundancy. However, young people in our borough have been affected particularly hard by the uncertainty surrounding education and future employment.

“As part of our economic recovery work, we are committed to providing as much help as we can, working alongside our partners, to give young people the skills and tools they need to allow them to thrive and seek new employment opportunities."

Anyone who is unable to attend the event will get the chance to find out more about local employment opportunities through a virtual jobs fair that will take place on Thursday, September 30 between 11am and 12noon.

The virtual fair, which has been organised by Job Centre Plus, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, Hart District Council and Rushmoor Borough Council, will include current vacancies in Basingstoke. Residents will be able to follow the event live by following @JCPinHants_IOW on Twitter.

Employers who want to promote vacancies can email southwest.socialmedia@dwp.gov.uk or using the hashtag #NorthHantsJobs during the live event.
