The monthly theme for Basingstoke Gazette Camera Club for August was night photography.

The theme produced incredible pictures as the shutterbugs of Basingstoke showed their best skills in capturing the beauty of the town under stars.

You can see all the selected pictures in the gallery above.

Five of the camera club members also used the theme as an opportunity to meet up and capture the beauty of Basingstoke together.

Kerry Englefield, Keith Banks, Alan Trott, Neil Brailsford and Marcus Amillian shared the photos from their meetup, demonstrating how the same frame would look different through different lenses of different photographers.

Sadly, the meetup did not go well for Keith who had his camera broken by a drunk man. While sharing his only photo from the meetup, Keith wrote: “The meetup did not go as planned due to one person kicking my tripod and sending my camera to the floor.

“Now I can’t use it as the shutter button will not work and it’s going to cost me £2,888 to replace it. The police came and took the drunk away. You can see him at the end of the bridge [see Keith’s photo in the gallery].”

Kerry, who was part of the meetup, said she was contacted by a person who has offered to raise money for Keith’s camera.

“He witnessed the incident and has offered to help raise money for the camera if the police don't get anywhere. What a kind gesture. Goes to show, not everyone is out to cause problems. I look forward to the next meet.”
