FIRE crews from Basingstoke attended a fire at a residential block of flats in Sherborne St John this afternoon (August 18).

Two fire engines were dispatched to Hutchins Way just before 2pm this afternoon after reports of a blaze caused by burnt cooking.

One resident was reportedly injured during the fire but was found conscious and breathing on arrival.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two Basingstoke fire engines were called at 12:56 this afternoon to a property on Hutchins Way. 

“The alarm was caused by burnt cooking with one casualty, who was conscious and breathing, assessed by HIWFRS crews. 

“Firefighters returned to station following the stop message at 13:52. “
