A POPULAR fast-food chain which offers “cheesy, spicy, crunchy and grilled” Mexican food is set to open in Basingstoke.

The new Taco Bell restaurant is set to open in the top of town on Wote Street, next to the Duck and Tipple bar.

Plans for the former Subway building were submitted on the Basingstoke and Deane borough council’s website on July 17.

Changes to the building will include the replacement of the shopfront with Taco Bell designs and colour scheme and new externally illuminated signs.

The first Taco Bell restaurant was opened in Downey, California in 1962 with the chain opening their first UK restaurant in 2010.

There are currently 68 Taco Bell stores in the UK with the closest to Basingstoke in Reading or Southampton.

The fast-food restaurant offers a Mexican-inspired menu consisting of tacos, burritos, quesadillas and nachos.

Taco Bell is famous for it’s Tuesday deal where customers can purchase a taco and a Sol beer for two pounds.

There is no official date set for the opening of the new store and work on the premisses is yet to begin.

Taco Bell have been contacted for comment on the opening of the store and how many jobs it will create.
