TWO men were assaulted outside Basingstoke train station on Saturday night (August 14).

Police have launched a witness appeal into the incidents, which saw a 25-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy injured.

Between 9pm and 9.23pm, the pair of Basingstoke Town football fans were on their way home from the afternoon's match and were approached by two men on Clifton Terrace before being punched.

The 25-year-old man was knocked unconscious and taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The teenager was left with a swollen jaw.

One of the suspects was described as being mixed race, 6ft tall and aged between 25 and 30. He had dreadlocks and a short beard.

The other suspect was described as being white, 6ft tall and aged between 25 and 30. He had dark hair.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Were you in the area at the time? Perhaps you saw someone matching the descriptions mentioned above, or have dash-cam footage that might assist us?

Basingstoke Town FC posted on Twitter: "BTFC sends our best wishes to the two Basingstoke fans assaulted on their way back from our match on Saturday."
