Garden waste collections in Basingstoke and Deane have resumed, after they were cancelled last month due to crews having to self-isolate.

The £60 a year subscription service was postponed in the borough at the end of July to protect frontline waste and recycling collections.

It came after one crew member tested positive without symptoms, and crews he had worked with on the preceding days were all forced to self-isolate.

Now, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have confirmed that the fortnightly subscription service has resumed today (August 9), but that it may take longer for it to be collected.

A spokesperson said: "All the garden waste crews have gone out, but to cover we have had to put different crews on some rounds so it may take them slightly longer to get round.

"Please leave your garden waste sacks and bins out and they will get to them as soon as possible."

The council had said last week that subscriptions would be altered to make up for the missed collection.

BDBC also provided an update on frontline waste and recycling collections, confirming that six crew members are self-isolating as of today (Monday).

The spokesperson continued: "As a result of self-isolation, we are one waste crew short and so one round has not yet gone out. The other crews will try to get to these collections later in the day if possible.

"The message to residents is that if none of the bins in your street have been collected, please continue to leave your bin out in its usual collection place and the crew will return as soon as possible. Bin collection crews are working hard to try to clear any backlog.

"If only your bin, rather than the whole street, has been missed, please complete a missed bin form at https://www.basingstoke.gov.uk/missedbin."
