THE owner of a waste removal company in Basingstoke has spoken out about the ‘mechanical failure’ which caused his van to overturn on a residential street in Basingstoke on Friday.

The incident happened on Friday, August 6, on Firs Way, with one resident saying it looked as though the vehicle had “lost balance” while trying to pick up a Hippo bag, causing its contents to spill onto and block the road.

Now, Tyler Riley, owner of TJR Garden Maintenance and Recycling Services whose vehicle overturned, has explained that the incident was due to a mechanical failure, and reassured customers that all health and safety procedures were followed.

He told the Gazette: “All health and safety measures are duly respected with every job undertaken, and the unfortunate incident in question was due to a mechanical failure.

“Fortunately nobody was hurt or injured, and the situation was quickly resolved with minimal disruption.”

He continued: “I pride myself on customer feedback, and pursuing best practice at all times. Our vehicles are checked regularly, and maintained to a high standard. Despite this, certain mechanical failures are unforeseeable.”

Tyler has previously spoken about how setting up his own business ‘turned his life around’ from troublesome Brighton Hill schoolboy to successful entrepreneur.

After being made redundant from a labouring job, the 23-year-old found himself at a loss, but credited the pandemic with giving him the boost he needed to become successful.
