A FILM crew who arrived in Basing View on Thursday returned to shoot more “location shots” for Amazon Prime series Citadel starring Bodyguard actor Richard Madden.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has confirmed to the Gazette that the crew were the same who took over Basing View in March to film the “epic global spy thriller” in the Grade II listed Mountbatten House.

Lorries, trailers, cameras, and catering facilities arrived in Basing View on Thursday parked in Lower Basing View car park and The Vyne Meadow Car Park behind the train station, both run by the borough council.

Filming for the series which also stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas previously took place in March, when Richard Madden was spotted by a member of the public.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council confirmed that the filming was for Amazon Prime, with the crew returning to shoot more “location shots”.

However, the crew were trying to dupe the public into believing the filming was for a mayonnaise commercial.

When filming took place in March, members of the public visited the area to try and spot the famous cast, and the crew may have been advised to deter people from heading to the set by saying they were filming a mayonnaise commercial to avoid disruption.

Staff in Hartley’s Coffee Shop next-door also confirmed that it was the same crew who were at Mountbatten House in March filming Citadel.

A Gazette reporter also spotted a sign inside one of the trailers which said 'Citadel'.

Signs posted around Basing View directing those involved to the set were the same as those used in March, including the code AML.

Citadel is described as an “epic global spy thriller” also starring Ashleigh Cummings.

It is understood that Mountbatten House, a five-storey building which was sold for £2 million in 2019 to Squarestone Growth, has been converted into a hospital set for filming.

The borough council owns the land the building sits on.

The crew have now packed up and left the site.
