AWE scientist John Bradshaw has been made an honorary fellow of the Society for Radiological Protection.
He joins an exclusive club of just 75 people who have been made honourary fellows to the society since its inception in 1963.
Joining AWE in Aldermaston in 1995, John was appointed its first head of radiation protection.
Pete Bryant, immediate past president of the SRP, said: “John is a well-known and liked member of the SRP, who has and continues to play an active role in supporting the society and the wider profession. Having worked with John personally for a number of years, I fully support him receiving this recognition. Both personally and on behalf of the Society I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication.”
A spokesman for AWE said that John has been an advocate for the research facility's school outreach programme.
