Three men will stand trial later this year after denying a host of charges connected to the alleged racial abuse of a taxi driver on his way to Basingstoke.

Vaneet Singh was driving the men from Reading to Basingstoke in September last year when they allegedly racially abused and assaulted him.

The incident is said to have happened as they were driving along the A33 on September 20, between 10.20 and 11.45pm.

Dean Brandon Smith, 19, of Paices Hill in Aldermaston, has been charged with four counts of racially and religiously aggravated common assault, racially and religiously aggravated public order, theft, and threats to commit criminal damage.

Frankie Gregory, 19, of Moat Close in Bramley, has been charged with racially or religiously aggravated common assault.

Additionally, Billy-Sam Simon Shervell, 20, of Station Road, Minety, Wiltshire, has been charged with racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage.

All three men denied the charges when appearing before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on July 22, and elected a summary trial.

They will next appear before the same court on November 8.

A man has been given a curfew after he damaged a pillow and blanket at Basingstoke's police station.

Ryan Mark Gibbs had been taken back to the Viables custody centre on May 17 after being arrested for stealing £8 of items from the Iceland store in Aldershot.

He had also breached his criminal behaviour order by attending the shop.

When there, court documents reveal he damaged a custody pillow and an anti-rip blanket.

Appearing before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court last week, the 36-year-old was given a month-long curfew.

He must be at his home address, on Grosvenor Road in Aldershot, between 8pm and 6am every night.

Gibbs must also pay £8 in compensation to Iceland, but was given no order to pay costs or a victim surcharge.

A man from Brighton Hill has been fined after assaulting a police officer.

Darryl Dawes, of Schubert Road, admitted assaulting PC Keen in Basingstoke on March 5.

He pleaded guilty when appearing before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court last week.

The 49-year-old was fined £200 and ordered to pay the officer £250 in compensation.

He must also pay a victim surcharge of £34.

A man has been fined after he was found with cannabis in Basingstoke.

Ethan Edwards, of Calderwood Street in London, was found in possession of the Class B drug in Basingstoke on August 21, 2020.

The 20-year-old was fined £35, and ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge.

The cannabis was forfeited and destroyed.

A Basingstoke man has been fined after he was threatening and abusive outside of the town's station.

Marcin Roman Bartczak, of Freemantle Close, admitted causing a man harassment, alarm or distress through his behaviour outside Basingstoke station on July 6.

The 35-year-old was fined £120, and was ordered to pay £40 in costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
