TRAIN services traveling through Basingstoke this morning (Saturday, July 24) are too be 'severely disrupted' due to signalling problems in the area.

Posting on Twitter, operator South Western Railway said: "We’ve been advised that there is a complete loss of signalling in the Basingstoke area. Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem.

"We expect disruption to continue until 10:00."

They advised passengers to check journeys before setting out, adding: "Services that travel via Basingstoke will be severely disrupted this morning, please check before you travel.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to your journey with us today."

In the early hour of this morning, passengers were redirected via bus services arranged between Farnborough and Basingstoke and between Basingstoke and Winchester/Andover. 

However, all rail lines have now reopened, with delays expected for a few more hours.

SWR customers are being reminded that they may use their SWR ticket, at no extra cost, on: 

- Great Western Railway services between Exeter St Davids and London Paddington in both directions. 
- Great Western Railway services between Salisbury and Portsmouth Harbour in both directions. 
- Great Western Railway services between Reading and Basingstoke in both directions. 
- Great Western Railway services between Reading and Guildford in both directions. 
- Southern Railway services from Southampton Central/Portsmouth Harbour and London Victoria in both directions. 
- Cross Country services between Reading and Bournemouth in both directions. 
- London Underground services between London Paddington/London Victoria and London Waterloo in bot directions.
