A lorry overturned between Junction 8 and 9 of the southbound M3 carriageway this morning (Friday, July 23), causing severe traffic on the route.

According to police and fire personnel, there were no casualties, although the incident caused approximately 4.5 miles of traffic queues and 40-minute delays against expected traffic.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service told the Gazette: “Two Basingstoke fire engines were called at 9.38am to an overturned lorry between junction 8 and 9 of the southbound M3 carriageway. 

“Fortunately, there were no casualties, with HIWFRS crews clearing debris from the road and providing scene safety. 

“The incident was left with Hampshire Police before firefighters returned to station at 10:03am.” 

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We received a report of a lorry having overturned onto the side of the M3 between junctions 9 and 8 around 9.35am today.

“No injuries have been reported.”
