A FORMER Basingstoke Town player is appealing for town residents to turn up at the Camrose stadium on Saturday as part of a demonstration to save the historic ground.

The club was kicked out of the stadium in 2019 and are now playing at the much smaller Winklebury Sports Complex, after the ground’s owner earmarked it for development.

However, after the planning applications were refused, the situation is at stalemate, with the Camrose laying dilapidated at the centre of town.

Now, former player Adrian Donnelly is asking as many Basingstoke residents to attend the Save the Camrose protest at the Winchester Road ground on Saturday at 10am.

Adrian said: “It is time to stand against [Basron owner Rafi Razzak], to put pressure on our council to honour this community asset, and stop Mr Razzak from bulldozing this part of Basingstoke’s history into a distant memory.

"We need your support this Saturday at 10am, to show our council that we do not want houses here, nor a stupid road through ‘Our Camrose’.

“Please come along and help change the course of Basingstoke Town’s football club. You might not even like football, but there is a principle here.”
