Fire engines from Basingstoke and Winchester have been scrambled to reports of a lorry fire on the M3.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Resuce Service have said that they were called out to the southbound carriageway between junctions 7 (A30/Dummer) and 8 (A303/Andover) at 1.25pm.

However, they said the reports were a false alarm caused by an oil leak, and that crews were called back at 2pm.

Traffic maps show that traffic is currently flowing well through the area.

HIWFRS have been contacted for further details.

It comes after one lane of the M3 was blocked this morning after a car overturned.

The southbound carriageway had one lane blocked between junction 6 and juction 7.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police told the Gazette: “At 7.49am today we received reports of a road traffic incident involving one vehicle on the M3 between junctions 6 and 7.

“The vehicle had reportedly overturned and ended up on the hard shoulder on its side.

“We attended along with the ambulance service. The driver reported having minor injuries to their shoulder.”
