THE death of a man in South Ham last night has been confirmed by Hampshire Constabulary.

Yesterday evening, July 21, many residents noticed heavy emergency service presence around St Peter's Road in South Ham, sparking social media rumours of a shooting.

But it has since been revealed that emergency services were called to the area for a "medical emergency", and that the 37-year-old's death was not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary told the Gazette: “We were called just after 7.30pm yesterday, 21 July, to an address on St Peters Road, Basingstoke, following the death of a 37-year-old man.

“His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service added: “We were called to St Peters Road yesterday at 19:54 to a medical emergency.  We sent to the scene two ambulance crews and a community responder.”
