TWO Basingstoke women have been selected to take part in a celebrity trek in the Scottish highlands this September, in aid of breast cancer charity CoppaFeel .

Kate Medhurst, from Old Basing, and Fi Donnison, from Chineham both made the cut for the team who will join CoppaFeel celebrity patron and I’m a Celeb winner Giovanna Fletcher and good friend and The Voice presenter Emma Willis on their latest adventure.

The celebrities will be leading the trekkers on a gruelling 100km trek in the Scottish highlands near Glen Lyon which will take on some of the highest peaks and see the trekkers walking for 8-10hrs a day with some serious ascents, plenty of midges, as well as camping overnight.

Fi bravely battled breast cancer during the pandemic and, despite having only just finished treatment, says she was inspired to take on the challenge “to raise vital funds for this brilliant charity”.

Many of the other trekkers have also been directly affected by breast cancer, some of whom are still undergoing treatment.

Kate has several family members and friends who have been affected by breast cancer and has supported several cancer charities in the past.

She said: “I knew that this would be a life changing experience and adventure that would challenge me whilst also raising awareness and funds for this brilliant charity.”

She added: “Unknowingly, we both had children at the Old Basing village schools but hadn’t met in person before realising through mutual friends that we were both taking part in the same trek!”

The pair are now busy planning and training together to try and prepare for the challenge.

CoppaFeel’s mission is to raise awareness of breast and pec cancer in both men and women and particularly in young adults, by encouraging us all to regularly self-check.

They are seeking businesses and supporters to make any donation they can, at https://coppafeel.enthuse.com/pf/kate-medhurst-25324 and https://coppafeel.enthuse.com/pf/fi-donnison-7a2d9/post/662691

“Anything you can spare will be so gratefully received and make a big difference to the amazing work the charity undertakes,” said Kate.
