24 schools in Basingstoke record Covid cases

Hampshire County Council publish a full list of schools in the area which have reported positive coronavirus cases in the last 10-day period, if a school has further cases during the 10-day isolation period, their name remains on the list until the 10-day period from the most recently reported case, has completed.

The website lists that 24 schools have now reported at least one case of coronavirus in the latest 10-day period.

The 24 schools remain open and the Hampshire County Council website states that in some cases, one or more bubbles will be required to self-isolate whilst in other situations there is no requirement for a bubble to isolate.

Hampshire County Council’s Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services, Councillor Roz Chadd, told the Gazette: “The rise in the number of positive Covid-19 cases over the last week has been seen both in Hampshire and nationally, although figures for the county remain lower than the national average. The number of schools reporting a case of Covid-19 is in line with this.

“We have noted the recent confirmation from Government that, pending the decision to move to step 4 of the Covid-19 roadmap (which is expected to be made on 12 July), from 16 August adults who have been fully vaccinated and under 18s would no longer need to self-isolate if they are identified as a close contact of someone with Covid-19.

“Hampshire’s educators have responded brilliantly throughout the pandemic and have done all they can to keep delivering a high standard of education. Collectively, we have always agreed that the best place for children and young people is to be in school as far as possible during this unprecedented time.

“We will continue to support the county’s schools as appropriate and will be working closely with school leaders to ensure they continue to follow the latest Government guidance for Covid-19 in relation to education settings.”
