THE M3 carraigeway has reopened following three hour closure this afternoon.

Police enforced the closure on the 4A junction of the M3, near Fleet after a serious collision took place.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service told the Gazette: "Crews were called at 12.14 this afternoon to an RTC on the southbound carriageway of the M3 between Fleet Services and junction 5.

"Crews from Hartley Wintney, Fleet, Basingstoke and Rushmoor were on the scene to assist police who implemented a full motorway closure."

Whilst the road has reopened Highways England has said there are delays of up to an hour along the stretch of motorway.

Here is the current diversion route that Highways England suggest motorists follow:

On the approach to the interchange roundabout, use the dedicated slip lane to continue over the M3 and follow to the north roundabout.

Use the 1st exit and join the A327.

Continue on the A327 Minley Road for approximately 2 miles, until reaching the A30 roundabout.

Use the 1st exit at the roundabout and join the A30 London Road.

Continue on the A30 for approximately 6 miles. Pass through Hartley Wintney and continue until reaching the B3349 roundabout at Hook.

Use the 1st exit and join the B3349 Griffin Way South. Follow the B3349 over 2 intermediate roundabouts to the M3 junction 5 interchange.

At the junction 5 roundabout, use the 3rd exit to re-join the M3 southbound.
