A SECTION of the M3 has been closed following a serious collision.

Police have enforced a closure on the M3 junction 4A, near Fleet after confirming they are dealing with a serious crash.

A spokesperson from Highways England said: "The M3 is closed westbound between J4a and J5 in Hampshire. This is due to a serious road traffic collision. Hampshire Police are in attendance.

"Road users are advised to expect delays on the approach to the closure and allow extra time for their journeys."

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area as delays of up to 40 minutes are being reported.

Here is the current diversion route that Highways England suggest motorists follow:

From the M3 southbound, leave the M3 at junction 4A.

On the approach to the interchange roundabout, use the dedicated slip lane to continue over the M3 and follow to the north roundabout.

Use the 1st exit and join the A327.

Continue on the A327 Minley Road for approximately 2 miles, until reaching the A30 roundabout.

Use the 1st exit at the roundabout and join the A30 London Road.

Continue on the A30 for approximately 6 miles. Pass through Hartley Wintney and continue until reaching the B3349 roundabout at Hook.

Use the 1st exit and join the B3349 Griffin Way South. Follow the B3349 over 2 intermediate roundabouts to the M3 junction 5 interchange.

At the junction 5 roundabout, use the 3rd exit to re-join the M3 southbound.
