A student nurse was left in tears after the bike she had saved up for through working as a carer during the pandemic was stolen in Festival Place.

Mother-of-two Anges Toth was then left gobsmacked after her treasured item was listed as for sale in Woking on Gumtree 24 hours later.

Now she is appealing for the help of the public to get her bicycle back after the seller removed the listing from the site.

"I was crying yesterday and blaming myself, I was thinking 'Why did I go there?'", she told The Gazette

Basingstoke Gazette:

On Thursday, Agnes had just found out she had been accepted onto a student nursing course in September.

She biked into town to get a bank statement for her university DBS check and locked it up outside Festival Place.

When she returned, she was aghast to find it had been stolen.

The care worker said: "When I realised my bike had been stolen I was shocked. I talked to the security guard who advised me to report it to the police. However when I did they said they could not get the footage as the CCTV was broken.”

“I was crying yesterday and blaming myself. I could not sleep and was sharing everywhere on social media to try and get it back.”

Agnes currently works in a care home and has been on the frontline during the pandemic alongside studying full-time.

She had tried to get in contact with the person who had listed her bike on Gumtree and was planning on going to the location with a friend but after waiting hours with police in Woking, the advert disappeared.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Agnes, who saved up for the bike after getting a promotion from work, said: “I’m asking people if they did see something yesterday in the town centre or even at the train station.”

“I was on the phone with the police for an hour and a half. The lady on the phone just gave a reference number and told me to ask them to have a look at CCTV, but they did not do it.”

The bike is essential for Agnes to do her weekly shop, go to college and travel to work.

She said her message to the person who stole her bike is this: "I know it looks easy to steal someone’s stuff, but these people work hard for their belongings. I would love to have my bike back.”
