A TEENAGER who was caught speeding on the M3 whilst high on cocaine has pleaded guilty to five driving offences.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus on the M3 at Basingstoke on December 21, when he did not have insurance or a licence.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court had previously heard that the Essex resident was driving above the speed limit of 70 miles per hour, whilst also having cocaine and benzoylecgonine in his blood stream.

The case was adjourned to today, Friday, June 4, when the teenager’s defence lawyer entered guilty pleas to the five charges on his behalf.

These were speeding; use of vehicle without insurance; use of vehicle without license; and two drug driving charges.

Laura Bailey, defending, told Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court that the 17-year-old was not present due to his involvement in a separate drugs case, which prevented him from travelling to Hampshire.

Ms Bailey added that she had been “instructed to enter guilty pleas” on her client’s behalf , to which Elizabeth Cox, prosecuting, said there was “no objection”.

The teenager will be sentenced at Southend Magistrates’ Court, on a date to be confirmed, and remains subject to an interim driving disqualification.
