THREE schools across the Basingstoke and Deane have reported at least one positive case of coronavirus since Sunday.

Hampshire County Council publish a full list of schools in the area which have reported positive coronavirus cases over the last 10-day period.

The website lists that The Costello, Castle Hill and Aldworth have all reported at least one case of coronavirus in the last three days.

Castle Hill recorded at least one case of the virus on May 23, with the Costello and Aldworth recording at least one case of the virus on May 24.

The three schools remain open and the Hampshire County Council website states that in some cases, one or more bubbles will be required to self-isolate whilst in other situations there is no requirement for a bubble to isolate.

The County Council website shows that 15 schools across Hampshire have reported at least one positive case in the latest 10 day period, excluding Portsmouth and Southampton.

A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council told the Gazette: “We can confirm that some members of the school community have been asked to self-isolate across each of the three local schools that have recently reported coronavirus cases: Aldworth School, Costello School, and Castle Hill Infants School.

"All three settings remain open and pupils who are self-isolating are continuing their education via remote learning as appropriate. We are unable to provide further detail about cases as the information is confidential.”

New data shows proportion of pupils attending state schools in England has dropped over the past week amid concerns about the Indian coronavirus variant.

Just over nine in 10 (91 per cent) state school pupils were in class on May 20, down from 92 per cent on May 12, according to the Department for Education (DfE) statistics.

Approximately 87 per cent of secondary school pupils attended last week, down from 89 per cent on the previous week, while attendance in primary schools fell to 94 per cent last week, from 95 per cent on May 12.

The data suggests that 82,000 pupils were out of class and self-isolating on Thursday last week due to potential contact with a case of coronavirus, compared to 65,000 the previous week.

The figures come after the Government removed the requirement for secondary school and college pupils in England to wear face masks in class despite worries about the Indian variant of the virus.
