AS RESTRICTIONS ease, we have put together seven updates to keep you informed about coronavirus.

All the data below is correct as of Friday May 21.

1. According to Public Health England figures, nine confirmed cases were reported in the Basingstoke and Deane area in the seven days to March 15. It brings the total number of infections in the borough since the start of the pandemic to 8,250.

2. The current rate of infection in Basingstoke is around 5.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is below the UK average.

3. Elsewhere in Hampshire, the Indian variant has been detected in Test Valley, Southampton, Rushmore and Hart. Infections have increased rapidly in Hart and hotspots have started to appeared although this may not be linked to the new variant.

4. Popley has the highest seven–day rolling rate of new cases in the area according to the interactive map on the government coronavirus dashboard. The area is shown in green, the colour used to identify areas with infection rates between 10 and 49 per 100,000. The figures refer to the seven days to May 15.

5. More than a third of people in Basingstoke and Deane have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal. NHS data shows 51,371 people had received both jabs by May 16 – 36 per cent of those aged 16 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

6. As of Tuesday, the Hampshire Hospitals Trust were caring for three coronavirus patients in hospital. The number of beds at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 70 per cent in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 10.
