FIREFIGHTERS scrambled to the scene of Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital last night (May 19), to reports of a burning smell and possible fire.

Crews from Basingstoke, Tadley, Kingsclere and Hartley Wintney were called at 6:53pm after a burning smell was reported in an operating theatre.

However, after investigation the source of the smell was located and found to be caused by a burnt out belt in a motor.

A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed that crews left the scene following the stop message at 8.47pm.
