TRAVEL insurance quotes have more than tripled in the last two weeks, as international travel for holidays resumed to certain countries on Monday.

People were allowed to travel to countries on the government's green list from May 17, as part of step three of the government's roadmap to easing lockdown restrictions.

It means they do not have to quarantine on return.

This easing in restrictions has led to a spike in people requesting travel insurance quotes, as LV= have revealed that they have seen a 256 per cent increase in the number of quotes over the past two weeks.

It is also their busiest week for sales this year.

Heather Smith, Managing Director at LV= General Insurance said: “We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for travel insurance since the government’s traffic light system was announced, with people clearly very keen to get on a plane and head for sunnier climes.

"Whether you are taking the leap to travel overseas or simply sticking with your staycation plans, it’s important to get travel insurance as soon as you book, especially with all the uncertainty around.

"It’s also important to know exactly what is covered by your policy in the event your trip is impacted by Covid-19.”

Among the countries placed on the green list is Portugal, where many holidaymakers have been heading over the last week.

Many countries, including Australia and New Zealand, are on the green list despite the fact they are currently not allowing tourists into the country.

Before returning to England, tourists must take a Covid test and book and pay for another Covid test to be taken two days after arrival, but there is no requirement to quarantine unless you test positive or come into contact with someone who does.

Arrivals from an amber list country must quarantine for ten days at home, whilst arrivals from red list countries must go to a hotel quarantine.
