EMERGENCY services have been dealing with an incident at Winchester train station this evening (Thursday).

Passengers were evacuated from the station, and police and ambulance services have been in attendance. Local reports say that Network Rail's incident response team are also at the scene.

It has been reported that an incident took place involving a train approaching Winchester Train Station. The train is said to be stranded just outside the city while power to the line has been switched off.

South Western Railway has said: “Disruption between Basingstoke and Southampton Central. This is due to the emergency services attending an incident. Trains may be delayed by up to 60 minutes or be cancelled. Some trains will be diverted via an alternative route."

On a search of trains departing Winchester station, the train operator’s website adds: “This train has been cancelled because of the emergency services dealing with an incident.”

Hampshire Fire and Rescue has confirmed that it is not in attendance and the incident is being lead by the police. 

Hampshire Police has told the Gazette that the British Transport Police are dealing with the incident. The force has been contacted for more information.
