POLICE are dealing with unauthorised horse and trap racing and have closed a road while they attend the incident.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that officers have closed a lane of the A33 near Micheldever as “a safety precaution for drivers” after being called to the gathering this morning.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We have been made aware of a gathering on the A33 today, 1 May, in relation to unauthorised horse and trap racing.

“We have increased our patrols in the area, officers will engage with those in attendance and use enforcement action where necessary and proportionate to do so.

“Our officers will deal with any offences and will be capturing evidence to enable them to follow up with any incidents not dealt with at this time.”

The Gazette understands that the incident may be linked with the gathering at The Crowne Plaza hotel last night, however police were unable to confirm this.

Anyone with information should call the police 101 or if urgent, call 999.
