Among the parties standing in this May’s elections are the Conservatives. They currently have overall control of the council, although they lost their voting majority in 2019.

Safe hands to lead the recovery from Covid-19

  • We will strengthen and improve our Town Centre as one of the Country’s Top 20 shopping designations, in an ever-changing retail environment.
  • We’ve worked in partnership with the voluntary sector, to eradicate rough sleeping in our Borough.
  • We will fight to deliver a new hospital for Basingstoke and Deane, already announced by the Conservative Government.

Keeping Council Tax low and encouraging investment

  • We have squeezed the council’s own running costs – over £16m of savings over the last 12 years, without cutting frontline services.
  • We are committed to regeneration of our business areas to make our borough one of the most attractive to new investment, creating more jobs for everyone.

Protecting and cherishing our natural environment

  • We’ve declared a Climate Emergency, and created an Action Plan to reduce Carbon Emissions to zero by 2030.
  • We’re creating Hampshire’s first Biodiversity-Improvement Zones for wildlife, a wildlife corridor to the East of Basingstoke, and a new Borough Country Park at Manydown, planting over 16,000 trees.

Investing in community and sports facilities

  • We are committed to redeveloping Basingstoke Leisure Park, including a new state-of-the-art Aquadrome and provision for a new ice rink.
  • Building on our sport-led community investment programme which has seen over £5.4 million invested in sport since 2015.
  • Create a new community grant pot for every ward in the Borough, to fund local projects, totalling £108k a year.

Action on crime and anti-social behaviour

  • Basingstoke Conservatives created Community Safety Patrol Officers, and this year added funding to increase the number of officers by 25%, helping keep you safe.
  • Your Conservative Council obtained Hampshire's first ever area wide High Court injunction which has led to an 81% reduction in offences.

Planning for the future

  • Helping young people Own their Own Home with Council backed funding.
  • 414 Affordable Homes delivered last year.
  • Secured planning permission for Manydown, which will help deliver the new homes needed for the future.
  • We support Neighbourhood Plans and fight unwanted, unsuitable development.

Basingstoke and Deane Conservatives will fight to keep our Borough a thriving and prosperous place to live, work and play. We will protect and improve the quality of local services our residents expect and demand at the lowest possible cost to the taxpayer.
