Shocking pictures show the aftermath of a serious collision that took place in Basingstoke yesterday evening.

Police were called to the scene of a serious collision on Winchester Road, near where the road meets Sarum Hill at just before 10pm yesterday evening (April 21).

The white BMW was said to have clipped the Astra as it approached the right-hand bend where the road meets Sarum Hill.

Witnesses said the white car was "speeding" when it struck the Astra, causing it to spin around and smashing the front of the car.

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital as a ‘precaution’ after the incident.

The white BMW, also badly damaged, was left abandoned outside The Wheatsheaf pub as its driver and passengers were seen running off in the direction of Sarum Hill, with reports of them climbing over fences to get away.

Police are now appealing for witnesses after the driver and passengers of the BMW, which was registered in 2007 and has up-to-date tax and MOT.

A spokesperson for Hampshire police told the Gazette: “We were called at 9.50pm yesterday, 21 April, to reports of a two vehicle collision on Winchester Road, Basingstoke.

“On police attendance, the driver of one vehicle had left the scene.  A 23-year-old man from Basingstoke was taken to hospital as a precaution.
