SOUTH East Water has apologised to residents after a burst pipe caused part-closure of Winchester Road earlier this week.

The road was closed between Winchester Road roundabout and Sarum Hill from Wednesday evening (April 14) into yesterday, while engineers attended to the mains water pipe.

Robert Anthony-Scorse, regional network manager at South East Water, said: “We’re really sorry to anyone impacted by a burst water pipe in Winchester Road, Basingstoke, earlier this week.

“Our repair team fixed the damaged pipe, a four-inch-diameter water main, and customers in the area all have their normal drinking water supply."

The road has now reopened to all traffic.

He continued: “Winchester Road was closed for safety reasons while we restored the road to its original state but has since reopened to passing traffic.

“Although rare, leaks and bursts such as this can occur on our vast network of underground pipes, which spans more than 9,000 miles.”
