TWO men have been arrested after a 19-year-old man was assaulted and robbed outside Basingstoke train station on Monday (April 12).

Shortly before 9.40pm, a 19-year-old man was assaulted by two men who stole cash from him and then left in the direction of Chapel Hill.

He received minor injuries to his face and hand.

The incident occurred in the seating area outside the front entrance of the train station.

A 20-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident.

A 17-year-old man from Basingstoke has also been arrested, on suspicion of robbery and possession of a controlled Class A drug.

Both have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

A police investigation into the incident is underway and officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen or heard anything.

"Officers believe there could be a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time and could help assist their enquiries."
