A POET from Basingstoke has shared a verse she wrote about His Royal Highness Prince Philip, who sadly passed away yesterday aged 99.

Patsy Brown, who is originally from Colne Way, Eastrop, published the poem in an anthology in 2014, Patsy & Son, which she jointly wrote with her son Mickey.

The 85-year-old, who is now based in Staines Upon Thames, wrote the poem on her old Imperial typewriter.

In the wake of the Duke of Edinburgh’s death on April 9, Mickey Brown - who has recently moved to care for his mother after more than 20 years living in Basingstoke himself - shared the poem, entitled ‘H.R.H Prince Philip’:

His humour is manly, his outlook is bright

Although paces behind, he’s always in sight.

A husband to cherish, a father so proud,

He stands out so much before the crowd.

Everyone knows that he’s a man’s man,

But stays at home just as much as he can.

In the public eye it must be a strain,

But firmly he stands and grasps the reins.

Our Queen, bless her heart, is a wife and a mother,

But to lead that sort of life, she needed a brother.

The duties performed are all to perfection,

Not all, I’m sure, are of her selection.

Philip, she picked you, a man of her choice,

And frankly behind her you are the voice.

You made her so happy, that’s very plain,

Take care of her always, and LONG MAY SHE REIGN.
