The location of a site that is to replace the Anvil as Basingstoke's Covid testing hub will be announced in the coming days.
It was announced yesterday that the walk-in testing hub at the Anvil theatre, first set up in October, will close next Tuesday, April 6.
The Department for Health confirmed that work is underway to identify its replacement site.
But now, both the borough and the county council has confirmed that they will undertake a site visit this week, and the replacement site will be announced in the coming days.
A spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said: “We can confirm that Basingstoke’s local testing site is due to relocate once the lease on the current location at The Anvil comes to an end in the very near future.
"Subject to a final site survey this week, we hope to be in a position to confirm the new location and timings in the coming days.”
It is understood that the new site could be a mobile unit placed in the town.
As well as providing Covid tests for symptomatic people in the town, the Anvil has also been a point of collection for asymptomatic tests for family members of school pupils and staff.
