A FILM crew has descended on Basing View with an entourage of lorries, trailers, flood-lights and catering facilities packed into a council car park, thought to be there to shoot new Amazon Prime series Citadel.

Lorries were piling into Lower Basing View Public Car Park this evening and security guards were patrolling the site.

A sign pointed in the direction of the set towards Mountbatten House, where tents could be seen set up inside one of the rooms and flood-lights lined the route outside.

Another sign said the car park would be closed from March 25 to March 31.

A security guard told the Gazette the crew would be there for three to five days, taking one day to set up, one day filming and another packing away.

However, he kept tight-lipped over what was being filmed.

He confirmed the crew had recently been filming in nearby Farnham, where it was reported that Amazon Prime series Citadel was being shot.

The cast, which includes Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, was recently thought to be filming in Bourne Wood in Farnham on March 3, with signs using the code AML spotted – the same as the ones seen in Basing View.

The signs also direct to catering, crowds and cars.

The plot details of the series are being kept under wraps but its IMBD page describes it as an “action-packed spy series”.

The film set – Mountbatten House- is one of Basingstoke’s most iconic buildings.

Also known as the ‘Hanging Gardens of Basingstoke’ the five-storey Grade II-listed building was sold for £2million in 2019 to Squarestone Growth.

Basingstoke Gazette:

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council owns the land the site sits on.

The Gazette asked the borough council earlier today what was happening at Basing View after members of the public noticed signs going up, but it has not yet responded.
