AN OVEN fire at Nando's was reportedly extinguished in 'less than an hour' this evening, after multiple crews scrambled to the scene at the restaurant's Festival Place branch.

Firefighters from Basingstoke, Tadley, Odiham and Overton attended the incident just after 6pm this evening, but the restaurant's manager told the Gazette that the blaze was extinguished by around 6.30pm.

Dhaize Wawrzonkowski, manager at Nando’s Festival Place, said: “There was a fire in the oven. Nothing is damaged, no one was hurt. Just a flame that we couldn’t put out.

"Everything’s safe, everybody’s safe. The firefighters came and it was out in less than an hour. They said we did a good job."

Dhaize said that, by 7.20pm, the kitchen was back up and running "as normal" for takeaway and delivery orders, adding: "It’s been a very busy night. We had to close but we’re back open now. We’re not using the oven that was damaged, but we have another one and are using that.”

The Gazette has contacted Hampshire Fire and Rescue for comment.
