DELAYS to post deliveries in Basingstoke continue to affect the town this week, with some residents reporting they have not received any post for over a week.

As previously reported, Basingstoke’s delivery office in Priestley Road is experiencing “very high levels of absence” following a Covid outbreak.

Information on the Royal Mail website states that it cannot guarantee that deliveries will happen every other day in Basingstoke, but it is prioritising the delivery of Covid-19 vaccination letters and test kits.

Royal Mail previously told the Gazette that “a number of colleagues have tested positive for coronavirus at the Basingstoke delivery office” and that 29 members of staff were isolating through test and trace guidance.

A member of staff who works at the delivery office said that more than 70 of his colleagues were off work as a result.

Royal Mail has not confirmed how many staff are off work altogether.

A statement on Royal Mail’s website says that deliveries in Basingstoke are “likely to be disrupted this week”.

It adds: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. We’re working hard to deliver as comprehensive a service as possible with the resource available to support these offices.”

The Gazette has asked Royal Mail for an update on the situation.
