A LEAK in a chemical maintenance room at a private hospital in Basingstoke resulted in three people being injured this morning, the fire service has confirmed.
As previously reported, BMI Healthcare told the Gazette that an engineer was taken to A&E following an “accident” at BMI The Hampshire Clinic, in Basing Road, this morning.
However, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has now informed us that three people were injured following an incident, with two treated at the scene and one taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for the fire service said: “There had been a leak in the chemical maintenance room, which was ventilated with natural ventilation.”
Firefighters from Basingstoke, Tadley, Winchester, Rushmoor and Alton were called to the hospital at 8.40am.
The incident has been reported to Public Health England and the Environment Agency.
Firefighters left the scene just after 11am.
A spokesperson for BMI Healthcare said about the incident: “An external engineer was on site to perform routine work on a hydrotherapy pool. He was taken to A&E following an accident and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
It said the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
