One of Basingstoke's largest charity shops will not be reopening later this spring.

The lease on the British Heart Foundation's Winchester Street store, which supplies furniture and electrics, wasn't extended.

Daniel Phillips, who managed the store since joining the charity two years ago, said: "Hopefully we will be returning at some point in the future."

He said he wanted to thank customers and volunteers for their efforts since the branch opened in 2016.

"I'd like to say thank you to all for their support," he said.

He said: "I really enjoyed working there. One of the things that drew me to working for a charity is being able to spend time with people. The BHF encourages us to work closely with volunteers and team members."

Volunteers from Winchester Street will be redeployed to the charity's Wote Street store while Dan will be moving to its Wantage branch.

The 31-year-old added: "All the volunteers are very much like a family. We haven't been able to do a closing down get-together due to coronavirus, so I hope we will all be able to do something soon."
