Police have revealed more details about an incident in Beggarwood last night.

At least five police cars, two vans and unmarked cars descended on Oceana Crescent in Beggarwood on Friday evening.

They first arrived at the scene around 9.45pm, according to witnesses.

One neighbour said there were around 15 officers in the quiet cul-de-sac.

But this afternoon, police have provided an update on why they were called.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "I can confirm that we were called to a report of a concern for welfare at an address in Beggarwood, Basingstoke at 8.54pm on Friday 19 February.

"Officers attended and the man involved has since been directed to the appropriate services for support."
