THE family of a Liverpool football fan have called on the club to pay tribute after his sudden death at a Basingstoke building site.

Scott Grimes, who has been described as a ‘loving’ and ‘devoted father’, passed away on Monday (February 15) after sustaining injuries at a building site on Wiltshire Crescent.

An official investigation into the 30-year-olds death has since been launched by the health and safety executive and Hampshire Police.

Scott’s brother, Ian Grimes, is now calling on Liverpool FC to pay tribute to Scott on Saturday before or during their match.

Tagging the team on Twitter Ian wrote: “My brother who was a massive Liverpool fan passed away yesterday. It would mean so much to our family if you were able to pay tribute to him on Saturday before or during the match. He was only 30 years old.”

Liverpool Football Club shirts and scarves were left at the gates of the Aldershot club as a tribute to the dad on Monday evening.

One Liverpool shirt reads ‘Grimesy YNWA’, a reference to the clubs ‘You'll Never Walk Alone' motto.

Loved ones have also shared football memories as tributes on social media with Connor Lally writing: “Such quality memories going to the Liverpool games together can’t believe it. We had many more countries to travel watching the reds boss Europe. Rest easy up there, YOU’LL NEVER WALK ALONE.”

A spokesperson for the HSE said: "We are currently looking into this incident with Hampshire Police who are leading on the investigation.

"A HSE inspector has attended the site and has been working with them to ensure any ongoing risk is controlled.”

The building site, which is opposite the junction with Chippenham Close, is run by Brymor Construction Group.

A spokesman for Brymor Construction said: “Regrettably an incident occurred yesterday, at our Wiltshire Crescent site, where an operative was found unresponsive.

“Sadly despite first aid being administered by our team and the emergency health professionals, they were unable to resuscitate him.

“The matter is being investigated by the relevant authorities and the Company continues to assist them with their inquiries.

“The thoughts of everyone at Brymor remain with his family and friends at this time.”

A fundraiser, set up on Tuesday morning, has already raised more than six times its goal.

At the time of writing, £29,540 has been raised for his family.
