COLD, icy and wet conditions can make driving a real challenge during winter months.

And this winter, Basingstoke has seen its fare share of horrific and life changing crashes.

With snow on its way this weekend, we look back on some of the worst crashes this winter to highlight the importance of road safety.

Basingstoke residents worst crashes this winter:

Tadely Crash

Basingstoke Gazette:

In November a teenage boy was rushed to hospital following a crash on the A340.

The collision took place on the near Pamber End, Tadley, at around 1.45pm on Sunday, November 8.

A blue VW Golf was driving on the A340 when it left the road and veered into a ditch.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to Frimley Park Hospital with serious injuries.

Reading Road crash

Basingstoke Gazette:

A car and lorry were involved in an incident on Reading Road close to the AWE Main Gate back in October.

The crash which happened just North of Tadley left the back end of a BMW completely destroyed.

The front end of the lorry also sustained significant damage.

Swan Street Crash

Basingstoke Gazette:

On New Year's Eve, Andy Soper, 47, was struck by a silver Nissan on Swan Street in Kingsclere.

He was trapped between two cars and was rushed to hospital where both legs were amputated below the knee.

Friends and family have launched fundraising drives to help the father and well-known gamekeeper in his recovery.

Basingstoke lorry driver crash

Basingstoke Gazette:

In December a lorry driver was left seriously injured after this collison.

The incident, which happened on Willis Way at the Fleets Industrial Estate, was reported at 4.50am on Thursday 3 December 2020 and involved two lorries.

The 50-year-old driver from Basingstoke collided with a stationary DAF HGV, which was occupied by a man aged in his 30s and from Watford.

The driver sustained life-changing injuries and was taken to Southampton General Hospital. The other man was uninjured.

Hackwood crash

Basingstoke Gazette:

Last month two vehicles crashed on Hackwood roundabout.

One car was seen damaged on the inside lane, while another ended up in a bush on the inside of the roundabout. Luckily no injuries were reported.
