The latest Covid-19 test results show that cases in Basingstoke and Deane have decreased sharply this week, with a similar situation across many areas of Basingstoke.

In the week leading up to January 24, Basingstoke and Deane recorded 613 cases, a decrease of 249 from the week before, with a rolling rate of 347.1 cases per 100,000 people.

Basingstoke and Deane is also broken into smaller geographic areas, known as MSOAs, or Middle Layer Super Output Areas, which are smaller, postcode-linked areas that are used for a range of government statistics.

Breaking down the cases over the week up to January 24 by area, many of the MSOAs recorded slight rises and falls in the number of cases in their area, though overall numbers remained high in some areas.

Popley had the highest number of cases, with 95 cases and a rolling rate of 682.8 per 100,000.

However, this is only an increase of 52 cases compared to the week to January 23; a decline of over 35 per cent.

Winklebury & Rooksdown also had high case numbers, at 51, but this was a drop of 10 cases on the week before. Other areas of Basingstoke also had significant case loads, including South Ham & West Ham and Houndmills & Oakridge, with 45 and 40 cases respectively.

Of areas with cases, Hatch Warren had the lowest number, with nine. This is an decrease of 22, or 71 per cent, from the week to January 23, and a rate of 104.5 per 100,000.

As of Friday, January 29, Basingstoke and Deane had reported 7,071 positive cases of Covid-19. There have so far been 199 deaths with Covid-19 recorded as the cause of death.
