TOUGHER measures to crack down on those breaking the rule have come into force this week with fines for house parties now raised to £800.

With new measures being introduced we asked our readers what lockdown measures they would like to see introduced.

Here is what you had to say:

Force party goers to quarantine.

Kevin Morrissey had an interesting suggestion on how to deal with party goers instead of dishing out an £800 fine.

He wrote: “Anybody has a party, don't let them leave and make them quarantine.”

Relax rules on walking

Basingstoke Gazette:

Martyn Ellis-Parker wasn’t a fan of the current travel restrictions he wanted rules to be relaxed slightly

His rule suggestion was: “That as long as you are away from anyone it doesn’t matter travelling 20 miles for a socially distanced walk. You must take your own coffee and sandwiches and not visit shops unless in your local area.”

Hefty fines

Many of you wanted to see hefty fines dished out to those who break the current rules.

Whilst the fine for those hosting parties has increased to £800 many thought this wasn’t enough.

Amanda Wright wrote: “Bigger fixed penalties without fail.”

Taah Tauya suggested that the minimum fine for someone breaking the rules should be £5000.

Whilst Ocin Erwee wanted to fine people for one specific thing: “Fine people £1000 that wear a mask this way.”

Basingstoke Gazette:

Increase police presence

Key worker Megan Parsons wanted to increase police presence to deter people from breaking lockdown rules.

Her rule would be: “That there would be road blocks and checks everywhere! This would then swindle out the ones that don’t an can’t follow rules!”

Follow other countries strict lockdown measures

Maryanne Yesil wrote: “Follow the same example as where I live Turkey, total weekend lockdown and every evening after 9pm. No one can leave the house without a mask (no poncey exemption) anyone breaking curfew is fined equivalent of one month's salary and it's an immediate fine. Anyone holding a party is fined for each person there. All restaurants etc closed except delivery. No entry to any, shop, market etc without masks worn.”

Only supermarkets should open

Basingstoke Gazette:

Keith Cullen recommended: “Shut all shops that don't need to be open along with schools. Supermarkets are only shop that needs to be open plus let them all close Sunday's.”

Steve Cardwell agreed: “Close all the shops that only sell a small proportion of essential items, or tape off all the non-essentials. It’s not the time to be browsing for new curtains in B&M.”

Radical suggestions

Some residents had questionable suggestions such as putting rule breakers in the stocks on market square and refusing treatment to those who don’t follow lockdown restrictions.

Tracey Butler added: “Make all those who don’t abide by the lockdown rules to work on a covid positive ward.”

People break the rules already in place

Steve Couch just wanted people to follow the rules already in place.

He said: “People can’t master the ones that are in place now never mind thinking of more. People don’t seem to be able to do the basics such staying at home, putting on a face mask correctly and not meeting with other people! More of a wish really, stop being so selfish.”
