FIREFIGHTERS rushed to Old Basing last night after a fire broke out in a garage.

Crews from Basingstoke, Odiham and Rushmoor were called out to the domestic property on Peake Close shortly after 11pm on Monday (January 25).

Four appliances were required to control the fire.

An external garage attached to a house was well alight when firefighters arrived.

The crews used two breathing apparatuses, three jets and a ventilation fan whilst tackling the fire.

A guinea pig was rescued from the flames by firefighters.

The garage, which was totally destroyed, contained a car and electrical items.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Firefighters from Rushmoor, Basingstoke and Odiham were mobilised at 23:09 last night to Peake Close, Old Basing.

"There was a fire involving an external garage, which contained a car and electrical items.

"The fire was extinguished using two breathing apparatus, three jets and a ventilation fan.

"A guinea pig was rescued by firefighters.

"The garage was 100% destroyed by the fire, and there was smoke damage to the property.

"The stop message came in at 01:16."
