FIREWORKS were let off across Basingstoke last night as people saw in the New Year.
With the town put in Tier 4 on Boxing Day, people were not allowed to hold parties and gatherings to celebrate the start of 2021, and instead people were urged to stay at home.
A message from Hampshire Constabulary warned the public that they were patrolling throughout the evening to “prevent any breaches of the regulations that are reported to us”.
However, police urged victims of domestic abuse to keep reporting to them, saying: “You are not alone. We will come when you ask for help, and can take steps to make sure you’re safe.
“Tackling domestic abuse and our response to vulnerable victims remains a priority. It has a devastating effect on people’s lives. Please seek help if you’re in danger. We’re here for you.”
They asked the public to report breaches of the government’s legislation through the Hampshire Constabulary website http://orlo.uk/CezC3.
