OFSTED suspended routine inspections of schools in March following the outbreak of Covid-19.
However, parents looking to apply for school places for next year will no doubt be looking at previous inspection reports to help inform their decision.
Here are a list of the Basingstoke and Deane schools which have been told to improve by Ofsted following their last inspection.
Secondary schools
The Costello School
This school in Crossborough Hill, Basingstoke was last inspected on March 6, 2018 when it was graded as ‘requires improvement’.
The school, which has 1,107 pupils, was told by inspectors that “overall, pupils do not make the progress they should”.
It was, however, graded as ‘good’ for personal development, behaviour, and welfare.
Cranbourne School
Cranbourne School, in Wessex Close, Basingstoke was graded as ‘requires improvement’ following its last inspection in November 2019.
It was the second time the school was given this rating, after previously being told to improve by Ofsted after an inspection in 2017.
Inspectors recognised the difficulties faced by the school during the two years prior to the inspection, because of an amalgamation with Fort Hill when it closed down.
They found that it is now “a settled and harmonious community where pupils enjoy being part of a more diverse group”.
Behaviour, personal development, and leadership were all graded as ‘good’, with the quality of education graded as ‘requires improvement’.
Aldworth School
Aldworth, in Western Way, South Ham, was visited by Ofsted in June 2019 and graded as ‘requires improvement’.
The school, which has 1,000 pupils, was said to require improvement in all areas inspected including the quality of teaching, leadership, personal development, and outcomes for pupils.
However, following a restructure, inspectors said the leadership team had “grasped what needs to be done to improve the school”.
