A Basingstoke man has appeared in court after indicating a guilty plea for carrying a knife in public.

38-year-old Steven James Carver, of Attwood Close, appeared at Winchester Crown Court on December 11, having previously given his plea at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on November 20.

Recorder Stead said that the custody threshold had been crossed “quite clearly.”

Speaking on Carver’s behalf, his defence lawyer said that her client was “vulnerable” and was suffering from a head injury “after being struck in the head by an iron.”

She made an application for a pre-sentence report to be prepared, which was accepted by Recorder Stead.

The case was adjourned until January 8.
