A MUSEUM showcasing life in the Borders during the wars has been given a financial lifeline - which has been welcomed by the local MP.

The Devil's Porridge Museum, based at Eastriggs, has received an £84,129 grant by Museums Galleries Scotland.

The funding, allocated through a recovery and resilience fund, will help the award-winning attraction pay for operating costs as well as support it in the coming months as it tries to recover from the impact of Covid-19.

David Mundell, MP for Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, said: “The Devil’s Porridge is an excellent visitor attraction for the region and, in normal circumstances, a fantastic educational asset.

“Unfortunately, like many facilities, businesses and organisations, the museum has faced a loss of income because of operating constraints and a significant fall in visitors.

“I’m delighted that the museum has been awarded this support which will make a big difference to the Devil’s Porridge and I wish the team well as they strive to come through this difficult period."

Whilst visiting the museum, Mr Mundell met with Richard Brodie, museum chairman, and other volunteers.

He said: “On my visit I was particularly pleased to see the original four-faced clock which was an iconic feature on the old MoD Mossband HQ building, which was once familiar to drivers using the old A74 between Gretna and Carlisle.

“It’s an appropriate home for the clock, which was saved after the building was demolished, and has been completely restored and very professionally presented.”
